Bali is one of my favorite places in the world to return to for its beauty, relaxation, and luxury stays. And talking about stays, if there is one place whose hospitality and beauty cannot be beaten, it’s the Munduk Moding Plantation resort. It is the best place to stay in Munduk, North Bali, and one of the best things to do in Munduk, Bali that you shouldn’t miss.

After seeing a few pictures of the irresistible infinity pool from Munduk Moding resort on a big hotel account a few years ago, it’s always been a dream of mine to stay here. Finally, I had the pleasure of staying one night at Munduk Moding Plantation in a pool villa and it was more than amazing.

So here is my honest Munduk Moding plantation review where I tell you about the resort and its facilities in detail.

STAYING AT MUNDUK MODING PLANTATION RESORT? Why not explore the nearby attractions like Lake Tamblingan and Wanagiri Hidden Hills.

Arriving at Munduk Moding Plantation

If you are coming directly from the Ngurah Rai International airport which is located in Denpasar, the resort is about a 2.5-hour car journey from there as it’s located in North Bali.

You can either book a taxi or rent a car to reach the resort. If you wish to rent a car then you have to book in advance and it will be given to you at the airport. Munduk Moding Resort also offers transfers to and from the airport at a cost that can be arranged at the time of booking.

In my case, I rented a car as my husband prefers to drive. Also, it becomes easy to explore North Bali as well.

Checking in at Munduk Moding Plantation

As we parked the car upon arrival, we were taken by the golf cart to the reception where we were welcomed with flower lei and a welcome drink. As the resort has its own coffee plantation the welcome drink was a delicious cup of coffee.

For someone who lives in Australia where coffee is taken seriously, I can assure you it tasted super good and unique. After a few minutes of the smooth check-in process and some instructions, we were ready to be taken to our one-bedroom pool villa. The best thing about this villa is that it comes with a private butler 😉

After settling in, I ventured outside to take a walk around the reception and main building to discover what this place has to offer.

The Resort, Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort & Spa

Situated far from the buzzing crowds of Canggu, North Bali is a peaceful region. Munduk Moding Plantation is a luxury, exquisite & sustainable resort located in a working coffee plantation in the cooler region of Munduk.

Surrounded by the lush jungle, this boutique resort is positioned on a five-hectare property and offers a tranquil escape nestled amongst nature. It is a very popular destination for couples and honeymooners!

Munduk Moding Plantation has 2 infinity pools and a jacuzzi and the rest of the resort is comprised of a small selection of villas that are dispersed throughout lush gardens.

The Villas range from Garden Villas, One Bedroom-Villas, One Bedroom Pool Villas, Two-Bedroom Pool Villas, Two-Bedroom Coffee Villas, and a Four Bedroom Pool Villa.

Infinity Pool & Jacuzzi

The most famous and beautiful part of Munduk Moding Plantation in Bali is their magnificent infinity pools on 2 different levels and a Jacuzzi in between these levels. If this wasn’t enough to spark your curiosity and even the beauty of the resort, all of these come with a panoramic view of the hills on a clear day. How amazing, right?

I have stayed in a few luxury resorts before but this indeed is hands down the best setting for an infinity pool. It looks so stunning and extremely impressive. To make it even more memorable, you can choose your favorite drink from the menu and can lounge on the sunbeds or at the Jacuzzi watching the sunset.

There is no doubt why their main pool was nominated by Asia Spa as one of the best 10 Infinity pools in the world in 2014.

Despite so many activities available at Munduk Moding Plantation, it’s hard not to just relax and rejuvenate by the incredible infinity pool and jacuzzi down the steps in front of the pool.

Villas & Suites

Munduk Moding Plantation Resort consists of nine villas and three suites and all of them are fully private. Each room has panoramic rainforest views and they are so cozy and comfortable. Some of the villas have their own private infinity pool and Jacuzzi too.

I was booked into a jungle villa which was just a short walk from the main reception building. Our private butler took us to the villa on a golf cart where our luggage was already waiting for us in the room.

The villa was in its own space and was secluded from the other villas. The best part about staying at Munduk Moding is that you get your privacy. All the villas are at a good distance from each other. Also, all the villas themselves have wonderful views of the valley and rainforest, a large sitting area, and a four-poster king bed.

Our room was a one-bedroom pool villa with an indoor bath, outdoor shower, and a fireplace. The infinity pool outside along with jacuzzi and longe beds are the best things one can ask for, right? It’s a perfect room for couples!

There’s also a DVD-audio-iPod station and flat-screen TV. You can have movie nights so just pick up a DVD from the reception lobby.

Private dining is possible in the villa and the butler will take care of it. I loved how comfortable and happy our stay was made because the butler was taking care of everything. He would ask the time for dinner, took us for afternoon tea, and took the order for breakfast at night.

For everyone who doesn’t know, Bali is famous for floating breakfasts and mostly every place can do that for you. We had a delicious floating breakfast in the morning and it was enough to start the day with happiness.

Also, all the facilities like bathrobe, slippers, hairdryer, bottled water, and luxury toiletries are included.

MiMPi Restaurant

MiMPi is the only restaurant at Munduk Moding Plantation near the reception in front of one of the infinity pools. Honestly, I was very surprised when I found out that being such a big resort, they only have one restaurant. Since I am a picky eater, I love to have as many options as I can have.

However, it serves a huge variety for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at a very reasonable price. The meals are well priced. They are neither cheap nor expensive as one usually would expect in a luxury resort. Also, the interior of the restaurant is sophisticated and modern chic.

The restaurant offers a variety of cuisines including traditional Balinese, Indonesian, Italian, and Western Fusion so you won’t be short of choice.

The restaurant has both an upstairs and downstairs section. The experience of having your breakfast downstairs in front of the infinity pool and diner upstairs when it’s raining outside to the sound it was something super romantic that I thoroughly enjoyed during my stay.

Also, as this resort has its own coffee plantation in Munduk, MiMPi restaurant serves a wide variety of coffees, including the famous “kopi luwak”. As I have mentioned previously the coffee here is so delicious which is why it’s definitely a must-try if you’re staying here!

Activities & Amenities

Munduk Moding Plantation offers an array of different activities to suit any guest. They have an MMP Experience Program, a number of exciting activities, and also they can put together a tailored program as per your wish.

The “MMP Experience Program” is included in your room price. It gives you the freedom to enjoy the infinity pool and jacuzzi all time and any time of the day. You will be given a guided tour and a detailed map of places you can explore in their huge property on your own.

Every day, they serve afternoon tea and coffee, so make sure not to miss that as it’s absolutely delicious.

Activities range from a tour of the coffee plantation to hiking tours to the nearest waterfalls, temples, and lakes for all levels of fitness. The program varies every day and they typically try to schedule various morning and afternoon activities, so you can keep busy.

They also have 4 friendly Bali peonies that you can ride through the plantation. You can check out here for all the various activities possible during your stay.

As the resort is located on hills the weather can be so unpredictable. Hence, they also offer various indoor activities to keep you busy in case it rains. During my time it rained almost all day but it didn’t stop me from having an unforgettable stay here.

You can use their onsite gym, play table tennis, pool, or even read in the libraries. If you’re looking for something more relaxing, indulge in Munduk Moding Plantation’s out-of-the-world spa to unwind and de-stress.

With heated massage beds to soothing oils and the view of the outside fog rolling across the resort, everything will make your experience wonderful.

Final Thoughts

If you’re visiting the North Bali region, I definitely recommend you to stay at Munduk Moding Plantation Resort for at least two nights to fully enjoy your stay. While one night can be enough you can never be sure of the weather in the hilly region.

Also, when you are staying at a place like Munduk Moding Plantation why rush at all. It’s definitely somewhere you will want to stay in and won’t get enough of it!

There is absolutely not a single negative word I can say about my stay at this resort. The staff is the sweetest and takes full care of you every time. They are willingly making efforts to make your stay as happy and memorable as possible. You will find yourself keep coming to North Bali just to stay here again.
